(January 29, 2022) – “Your Heart in God’s Hand” was written by author Thomas Montgomery. It is a journal of the author’s own effort to be a safe place for those facing loneliness, stress and emotional pain. God nudges us toward healing in these times, and Thomas seeks to be an open door for those who need one. We all experience times of emptiness in this world where evil and hurt exist. A willing listener can do wonders for someone in despair or overwhelm with the challenges of life.
The scriptures make it clear: “Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry” (James 1:19) NLT. Reference is made to an account of Fred Rogers, who pointed out the value of listening to someone who is hurting. We give what God gives us. It is God (not us) who comforts: “we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.” (2 Corinthians 1:4).NLT
Tom’s life often has brought him in the presence of suffering and challenges – his own as well others. He has worked with police as they go on the scene, full-time ministry, church planting and business that placed him in the presence of families facing distress. God can work anywhere, anytime. He does not limit His presence and influence to church. Jonah was sent to the people of Nineveh after his experience with a big fish.
