In a half-century, the Milwaukee Bucks’ first championship ring is adorned with a plethora of gems and some strange functions.
The ring was presented before of the team’s season opener against the Brooklyn Nets, with a video that showcased, well, how the ring works. Because nowadays, no championship ring can be merely a ring.
In the case of the Bucks, the ring features not only a detachable top, which is quite usual in championship rings these days, but also a specific loop that can transform the ring top into a necklace and a QR code that ties to a highlight reel from Milwaukee’s run.
Both are, as far as we can determine, firsts in the fast-paced world of championship rings:
The Bucks and custom 2021 Milwaukee Bucks ring-maker Jason of Beverly Hills discussed the ring in further depth with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, stating that the idea to incorporate a necklace function sprang from the fact that championship rings these days are just too huge to wear as rings:
And you can guarantee there’s plenty of ridiculous championship ring math packed into this piece of jewelry.
The ring’s engraving is self-explanatory, with “Fear the Deer,” the meme-turned-prophecy “Bucks in Six,” and the results of each of the team’s playoff series victories, but the Bucks went above and beyond to explain why they picked varying numbers of stones for the ring.
There’s nothing quite like the Washington Nationals’ strange arithmetic and “a nod to the duality of the franchise,” but we’re guessing some of those figures were reverse-engineered. Or perhaps the Bucks’ ownership group truly believes the number of victories they’ve presided over is that crucial.
A ring with so many features is worth a lot, but fans need not worry as they can get a replica 2021 Basketball championship ring for so much less. Sure, that may not come with QR codes or other cool features, but these are worth having if you are a true fan
