Follow the eye-opening journey of one man’s forensic investigation into the murder of the controversial American prophet, Joseph Smith at Carthage Jail.
Spurred by numerous recent changes to the official narrative by today’s largest Mormon congregation, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), Justin Griffin examines the crime scene, conducts ballistic experiments, reenacts potential scenarios, speaks with the top Carthage Jail experts, analyzes the current theories and even presents his own.
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” – New Testament, KJV, James 1:5
Many critics of the film seem to be members of the LDS church who seem rather offended that anyone would question the increasingly non-specific official narrative provided by their church. Which is interesting, because the foundation of their doctrine, as well as the mantra of their massive global missionary effort, encourages people to ask sincere questions concerning deeply held traditional beliefs.
“If we have the truth, it cannot be harmed by investigation. If we have not the truth, it ought to be harmed.” – J. Reuben Clark, Former 1st Presidency of the LDS Church
Whether you agree or disagree with the final conclusion of the film, Justin Griffin invites everyone to do their own research, and present their findings on the film’s official social media page (link below). He seems to understand that it’s impossible to account for, and discover answers for every possible scenario & question – which I found refreshing for a documentary film of this type.
I would highly recommend this intense, well researched & beautifully produced film, although the final reenactment scene contains violence perhaps not suitable for children. – Independent Film Review
