What Are Some TMD Treatments?

TMJ syndrome is the same as temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD). A common problem is swelling of the joint where the skull meets the jaw. This will hurt your mouth, ears, and probably a lot of other parts of your body.

Even if it’s just for your comfort, it’s something you should take care of. Because of TMD, your jaw may get stiff or even lock up, making it hard to chew and talk. Check if you have any of the many signs that could mean you have TMD.

TMD can cause pain in the face and jaw, but it can also cause pain in the shoulder and neck. Pain in the jaw joints because they are over forced is another sign.

The pain may be most obvious when you talk, chew, or yawn. In addition, you might have ringing in your ears, frequent earaches, and even temporary or permanent hearing loss. When the jaw is moved, a clicking sound may be heard. Having trouble swallowing is another sign that you might have TMD. People with TMD have said they have a wide range of symptoms, such as headaches, dizziness, and feeling sick.

In a “clench” test, the dentist will probably have you clench your teeth. If you are uncomfortable while taking the exam, one way to deal with this problem is to use dental appliances, or occlusal equilibration. In this case, your teeth will be changed so that when you close your mouth, they don’t rub against each other.

Lastly, Mouthguards can be worn, and surgery may be needed in severe cases. If you have any of these signs, you should see a dentist as soon as possible.
