Torrance, California is located in Los Angeles County not far from Los Angeles International Airport. While not typically considered a beach city, Torrance Beach is one of the most scenic beaches in all of Los Angeles County. It is located at the base of a mountain that comprises the Palos Verdes peninsula to the south and to the north is Redondo Beach. The small beach has a concession stand, restrooms, parking, and swings on the beach.
Area and Location: 21 square miles, 12,312 acres, situated halfway between Los Angeles and Orange Counties and bound by the Pacific Ocean on the west, Torrance has 1.5 miles of lifeguard patrolled beach, bath house facilities and public parking. It also has 550 miles of sidewalks.
Population: Incorporated in 1921, the population is 147,405 with a peak daytime population (2 p.m.) of 203,111. Torrance is the fourth largest city in Los Angeles County and the 12th largest city in California.

While the beach is certainly a highlight to Torrance tourist attractions, the Western Museum of Flight next to the Torrance Airport is worth a visit, as well. The museum includes an interesting collection of Southern California aviation artifacts, books, craft and models. A monthly lecture includes top industry speakers, war heroes, and more.
Torrance has a lot going on in addition to its rich history and home of many prominent companies in aerospace and high tech industries. A weekly California certified farmer’s market, hikes at Madrona Marsh, and theater productions, and art displays at Torrance Art Museum all offer cultural and enriching endeavors inside and outdoors.
Torrance Historical Society & Museum
The Torrance Historical Society is housed in the City’s first Main Library — built in 1936. The Museum exhibits an ever-growing collection of photos, documents, books, artifacts and other material relevant to the City’s past.

Torrance Art Museum
Torrance Art Museum brings together visual artists and community members, promotes meaningful experiences in the arts to strengthen creative and critical thinking skills; and builds bridges between the visual arts and other disciplines in the humanities and sciences. Comprised of a Main Gallery and Gallery Two, the art museum sponsored by the City of Torrance Community Services has residency opportunities and accepts artist proposal on and ongoing basis.
VideoRow: The Torrance Art Museum has designated a new space to feature a revolving series of video exhibitions. Recognizing the importance of the moving image in contemporary art, TAM’s VideoRow includes video projects from emerging and established artists working in animation, short films, documentaries, and performance art to name a few.
