On the episode of “Monstrosity” executive producer and host David Race planned a surprise. During the pre-production of the episode being planned for Erin Murphy, David Race (who is also a comedian), decided it would be fun to have an actual witch on the show, to participate in the interview with Murphy. Race did not inform Murphy, or even his own podcast production staff, that a witch would be joining them on the show. “I wanted Erin’s spontaneous reaction to bringing a witch on with us, so I kept the plan secret from everyone”, Race told us. Race went on to say: “Only my assistant knew about it in advance.” About halfway through the episode, Race sprung the news on Murphy that a witch was about to join them, and a very funny 3-way conversation followed, between Race, Murphy, and the witch.

Monstrosity host David Race tells us: “We usually book a paranormal guest on the show, to appear with our celebrity guest. Usually, the paranormal guest is a UFO or Bigfoot expert. But with one of the stars of “Bewitched” on this episode I thought, why not stick her in the situation of talking to a real witch?”

Race also told us: “It didn’t hurt that we happened to find a witch with a good sense of humor. There’s nothing worse than an uptight witch”.

Race explained that locating the right witch wasn’t easy. “There are tons of witches out there. Way more than anyone would think. Which is odd.” He continued: “But lots of them were actually scary, and hardcore in ways that made me hesitant to book them on the show. I needed a witch with a delicate balance of authenticity, and humor. I didn’t want to put us in a situation where we have some intense witch on the show, who ends up hating us, and casts spells on all of us, that could end up destroying our real lives. These are problems that are unique to show business”.
