Staying Home to Exercise: Why a Gym Membership Isn’t Necessary

It’s true that there is a certain mystique about the gym that we don’t see when we stay at home to work out. Through carefully designed brochures we read and see the results of diligent use of the gym. It’s not that it’s impossible; it’s just that for most of us it doesn’t happen. For some, it’s about making enough time to go to the gym, exercise, shower and get home. For others, it’s aching muscles that keep us from returning regularly. Finally, the cost to all of us can add up over the years, leaving us questioning its necessity.

Whatever the reason for skipping gym membership in Burnley there are a few reasons to work out at home. For these reasons, gym memberships are not necessary.

1. Try exercise bands, exercise balls, and yoga. Gyms are all about machines, cables and iron stones. Walking into a gym and picking up a fitness band and doing a yoga routine may seem like a waste, but these are powerful tools for getting in shape that shouldn’t be overlooked. The key to many injuries is being overweight, which is likely to occur in the competitive environment of a gym. However, we are less likely to injure ourselves with exercise bands because the effort required gradually increases and then decreases during the movement. The same goes for the use of exercise balls.

2. Try a treadmill, cross trainer, and stationary bike. There will always be days when the weather doesn’t cooperate with our outdoor plans. In this case it is ideal to use a personal treadmill, cross trainer or stationary bike. The costs are one-time compared to the gym membership costs. Find a place in your home that you can devote to the idea of exercise. It is not a good idea to put it in your bedroom. Keep the bedroom as a place to relax and sleep, not to sweat!

3. Most go to the gym to lose weight… eat right first. Analyze your diet and eliminate processed junk foods and sweets. It’s easier to lose weight through a diet change than trying to exercise every day with a Krispy Kreme donut. That’s a lot of running!

4. Try real walking, running and cycling. The outdoors can be inspiring and motivating, be it the city streets or the cow pastures. Start with small goals of a mile or two and work your way up to doubling them. Check out the results with just these calorie-burning routines and you’ll forget about the gym.

5. Try a training video. There are some great video training series that require very little training equipment. The Beachbody or P90x workout series will have you showing off your muscles in no time.

6. Can’t make it on time? Try adding some calorie-burning changes to your office routine at work. Stand at the desk for 15 minutes an hour. This works for some phone calls that don’t require simultaneous access to the computer. Take the elevator to the floor or two below the floor you need to go to and walk up a flight or stairs or two. You won’t sweat, but you will burn a few extra calories at a time.

There are many reasons to stay at home to exercise and for these reasons we see a gym membership as unnecessary. Try some of these and get in shape without complications.
