The holy period of Ramadan occurs on the ninth month of the lunar-based Islamic calendar. It’s one of the most important days for Muslims as it enlightens them on the fact that life is nothing but an illusion and test. On this day, Muslims are required to abstain from any kind of delicacy, i.e. from food and drink from dawn to dusk. This routine must be followed for 30 straight days without fail.
However, Ramadan never falls on the same day as the previous year. Every year, it shifts approximately 11 days earlier based on the Gregorian calendar. This is the reason why Muslims celebrate Ramadan in different seasons. Fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam and hence it becomes mandatory for Muslims to keep a strict fast during Ramadan.
However, children who haven’t reached puberty, elderly people not physically & mentally sound and pregnant or breastfeeding mothers are exempted from keeping a fast on Ramadan. Fasting in Ramadan requires Muslims to abstain from drinking food or drinking anything from dawn to sunset. To begin their day, Muslims eat a pre-fast meal early in the morning known as suhur.
After sunset, they break their fast with the meal known as iftar. Ramadan Iftar Food meal usually begins with dates and water/milk which is then followed by dinner. Muslims can eat, drink, or enjoy any Halal Fast Food during the period of Sunset to Dawn. Particularly during summers, having a hydrated body is encouraged.
Regarding the type of food Muslims can eat during Suhur and Iftar, it is advised to eat food with high fiber content and fruits or vegetables to maintain electrolytes. However, there is no boundation to eating halal fast food. Since the occasion is holy and pious for the whole of Islam, every Muslim must follow strict traditions associated with Ramadan.
With the craze for Ramadan and the determination to enjoy its holiness, Muslims from all over the world never fail to remember their almighty god and thank him for all the happiness and joys of life they can spend with their families. Since fasting is one of the most important parts of Ramadan, it is always advised to eat healthy and pure during this holy festival.
