HISTORY
My name is Getse Noel, I am originally from Guadalajara, Mexico where I studied interior design. Fate brought me to San Diego California in 2015. Three years later, without a clear plan and only a dream and a love for my Mexican culture, I created Chéel which has Mayan origin and means rainbow. With the help of my parents and husband, this dream is now a reality.
With Mexico in my heart!
Mexican textile art has centuries of history and creativity throughout the country. Mexico is recognized as one of the main countries with a beautiful artistic production in the textile world.
Mexico really is a country of colors, and under this banner some women of the Otomí Tepehua region dedicate their lives to spend their eyes and their hands to create real works of textile art. Within the wide range of handicrafts that are manifested in Mexico, the technique of textiles cannot be absent; and these famous embroideries are an example of many designs from the minds of those embroiderers who spend every day sewing a new work to dress from a table, to a bed or sofa. The different designs have been recognized all over the world and this gives them an international prestige.
Women in this population of Mexico are dedicated to capture what their mind dictates, there is no pattern to follow, only a set of rural figures that can be human, natural or floral and with that colorful touch in blue, green, yellow or red. These needle teachers overflow their talent in white fabrics such as linen, blanket, silk, cotton, and other textures in terms ranging from weeks to months.
Currently not all colorful figures are on a white background, they are also made under a black fabric with white or gold embroidery, perhaps yellow backgrounds with red embroidery, and other beautiful combinations with unrepeatable designs.
The truth is that a wall is worth putting a work of art and a Tenango is that. Currently there are exclusive hotels decorating luxurious spaces that give that “Mexican” touch to the decoration.
Horses, birds, deer, daisies, rabbits, trees, dogs, children, donkeys, armadillos, bulls, tulips, dragonflies, fish, chickens and other elements of nature combine perfectly with frets and some other pre-Hispanic symbols Together, they are the perfect canvas that harmonizes the culture and life of the community in different important events such as marriage, harvest, some celebrations, birth and other moments of Otomí Tepehua life
