Lexington is a lively, enjoyable mid-sized city in the heart of Kentucky’s Bluegrass State. There are numerous CALENDAR LEXINGTON KY events to participate in and around the city, as well as excellent restaurants and dining. Here are some items to note doing if you had a day to spend searching for real estate but had some spare time in between houses.
On a clear day, you’ll be welcomed to one of the more beautiful landings in the South if you travel into the Bluegrass Airport. The exquisite wooden fences surrounding beautiful barns are but a memory as your plane descends lower and lower. Visit Keeneland for a day at the races if you visit in April or October. There is plenty of free parking, or you can pay for valet parking for a shorter walk.
There is a $2 minimum bet once within, although if you do not gamble, the thrill of watching the horse’s moves through the paddocks or jump out of the gates is unforgettable. You can also catch a bowl of chowder for a fast meal to refuel if you get tired throughout the day.
If you hate horseracing but love all things equestrian, a trip to the Kentucky Horse Park is easy and entertaining. A horse show, which includes a parade of breeds and a shoptalk with a farmer, is held many times a day in addition to boat tours and museum tours.
If horses don’t get your blood flowing, a trip to Spalding’s Bakery is sure to do the trick. Of course, Spalding’s Bakery makes exquisite cakes for all times, but the Lexington establishment is best known for its incredible donuts. In the mornings, lines will grow as staff from all over the city comes to buy a package of a dozen sweets for their coworkers. Maybe your real estate agent will begin the residential tour with a box of Spalding’s cookies!
Beaumont Center, Hartland, Tates Creek, and my old stomping grounds of Hidden Springs are among Lexington’s increasingly popular neighborhoods. Whereas Hartland and Tates Creek are more expensive, real estate in many other parts of town is extremely affordable.
With its wheel-like road style, Lexington is simple to maneuver so if you complete your home searching in one day, you can fly to the nearby Shaker Village of Nice Hill the next day. Invest the day visiting the houses, including tutorials on how to make straw brooms and a speedboat trip, before dining at The Inn at Shaker Village. Cast iron chicken and Tomato celery soup re among the dishes on the menu that harken back to the days when the Shaker community still lived on the property. Finish off your meals with the popular lemon pie, which you will either love or despise!
If you want to invest in real estate in Lexington, there are several fantastic things to do outside the area. For even more details about what to see and where to shop, go to the city’s visitor center.
