How does a torch work?

A flashlight is a portable lighting device that uses electricity and optical principles to work. It usually consists of the following main components:
Power supply: Flashlights usually use dry batteries or rechargeable batteries as power sources. The battery provides the power needed to enable the flashlight to produce light.
Light source: Modern flashlights usually use LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) as their light source. LED is a semiconductor device that generates light through the excitation of electric current and the transition of electronic energy levels. Compared with traditional incandescent bulbs, LEDs have higher energy efficiency, longer life and better light focusing.
Optical system: The optical system of a flashlight is mainly composed of a reflector and lens. The reflector is located between the LED and the lens, and its shape and surface are designed to better focus and scatter the light. Lenses are often used to adjust the focusing and scattering of light to produce the desired beam shape and angle.
Circuit control: The circuit control module inside the flashlight is used to regulate and control the current supply to the LED. It can control LED brightness, on/off operation and possibly multiple brightness modes.
When the flashlight is working, the power supply delivers power to the circuit control module. The control module controls the brightness and switching state of the LED through current. When current passes through the LED, the electrons in the semiconductor material of the LED will transition and emit photons, thereby producing light. The light is adjusted through the reflector and lens system to form the required beam shape, thereby illuminating the surrounding environment.
The flashlight switch controls whether the battery current passes through the circuit, thereby controlling the on-off state of the LED. By controlling the switching operation of the switch, we can turn on or off the light source of the flashlight.
Some modern flashlights are also equipped with dimming and multi-brightness mode features. These functions allow users to adjust the brightness and mode of light as needed to adapt to different lighting needs and power saving requirements.
