With the onset of winter, every mother has to deal with cold and cough issues in their new-borns. Being a new-born, they are easily susceptible to common cold as they still have to develop immunity to many commonly occurring infections.
A common cold is a viral infection occurring in your baby’s nose and throat. The first indication of common cold is nasal congestion and a runny nose. The most common treatment for common cold in babies involves providing lots of fluids and helping them to keep their nasal passages open.
Many cough and cold medicines are available in the market at any medical shop but the risks of using those medicines are more than any help the medicines might have in reducing cold symptoms.
In an Indian household, we often talk to elders about having some household remedies to relieve cold and cough. Well, the most common and safe solution to this lies in the ancient medicinal practice of Ayurveda which has taught many secret formulas and the use of essential oils extracted from natural herbs and plants found nearby.
The good news is that you can treat this at home with some homemade remedies. We have listed a few of them below:
- Roast some Carom seeds (ajwain) with some garlic place the mixture in a piece of cloth and place it near the baby.
- Heat some betel leaves (Nagervel Paan) on low flame, don’t brown them for they will get dry, once the leaf starts bubbling cool off the leaf and put it on your baby’s chest (no direct skin contact).
- If you don’t want to get into that hassle then try BabyOrgano’s Cold Relief Roll-on enriched with eucalyptus oil, chamomile oil, and other essential oils. Rub it on the baby’s chest and feet. Also, apply it on the baby’s clothes so she/he can breathe easily with the instant relief from a blocked nose.
