Dassam Falls is one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Ranchi, Jharkhand. This is the finest of all the waterfalls in the Chota Nagpur Plateau region- the eastern circle of India. This spot is locally known as Dassam Ghagh.

Etymology of Dassam Falls
The name Dassam has been formed from its old name Da:song. Da:song in Mundari language means pouring water (Da- water, song-pouring). The sound of this fall resembles the sound of pouring water, hence it was earlier named as Da:song, later it was changed into Dassam.

Geography of Dassam Falls
The water of the Kanchi river that falls from the height of about 144 feet forms the gorgeous waterfall called Dassam Falls. The water of this fall is clean and well maintained. Tourists are warned not to bathe in the water because of the natural hydroelectric current generation. Some drowning accidents took place between 2001 and 2006.

Dassam fall is considered to be one of the most popular falls among tourists for its photogenic scenic beauty. The scenic beauty of this place is doubled by the surrounding locale which is covered with dense tropical vegetation all around the place. The Dassam fall is also surrounded by eroded and weathered rocks of various shapes, sizes and colours that add more charm to the exquisite environment. It is also considered as a good picnic or excursion spot.

Dewri Mandir near Dassam Falls
Near Dassam Falls, there is an old Hindu temple called the Dewri Mandir. The Dewri Mandir is located at a distance of about 60 kilometers towards south Ranchi. It is a very old temple of Hindu Goddess Durga. The main attraction is that the idol is having 16 hands, where normally the Goddess possesses 10 hands. Dewri Mandir near Dassam Falls is made up of gigantic stones putting one over the other without any cementing material in between. It is said as per local folklores that this temple once belonged to the dacoits of this area.

Dassam Falls in Jharkhand is situated near Taimara village on Tata-Ranchi Highway Road. To reach this place the tourist can go 40 kilometers away from the capital of Jharkhand, Ranchi.
