BRCA1 and BRCA2 Testing Lab in India

Breast Cancer In India – Risk Factors and Symptoms Involved

It is commonly termed as BRCA gene test. BRCA screening is a next-generation sequencing blood tests that analysis DNA to identify mutation in either of the two susceptible genes i.e. BRCA1 and BRCA2. Individuals who inherit mutations in these genes or strong family history have high risk of developing the carcinoma. Genes2Me is providing a best platform in genetic testing for the cancer providing complete support to its customer/clients through BRCA Check.

Risk Factor for breast cancer in India includes

  • Gender: Just being a woman is the major risk factor, but men can suffer from it too.
  • Age: Incidence increases with age.
  • Family history for the risk: Women with first-degree female relative (sister, mother, daughter) diagnosed with breast cancer, have a higher risk of developing it again.
  • Genetics involved: About 5% -10% of them are thought to be hereditary.
  • Personal Health History: Women who have had breast cancer are more likely to get it for a second time.

Symptoms of breast cancer

  • Lumps or nodes felt on or inside of the breast: This is usually the first symptoms of the carcinoma. These lumps are usually painless and are clearly seen on a mammogram
  • General pain in any part of the breast is one of the major factors which may indicate for the associated issue.
  • Changes in the skin, like swelling( it is a signal of aggressive type of carcinoma), redness, or any other visible differences in either one or both breasts
  • Size may increase in one or both breasts also there might be change in shape of the breast(s)
  • Nipple discharge other than breast milk

Mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes are inherited in an autosomal dominant pattern, which means one copy of the mutated gene in each cell is sufficient to increase a person’s chance of developing. However, breast carcinoma is more common in women than in men, the mutated gene can be inherited from either the mother or the father. But, not all of them are inherited. These carcinomas are acquired during a person’s lifetime, and they do not cluster in families. Both male and female have mammary glands. But the difference lies in the fact that, in men, mammary glands are in rudimentary state and are inactive. A lot of familial and sporadic cases of male breast problems have been reported in the past. Men with mutations in the BRCA1/2 genes have been affected with prostate cancers. In fact, BRCA2 mutations may prove to be a greater cause of cancer in men than had previously been though.

Genes2Me offer a BRCA Check that screens of BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations, which helps in identifying the clinically relevant or pathogenic mutations. Our breast cancer genetic screening test panel covers most of the reported and commonly occurring mutations. Screening is performed on a high end and sophisticated platform of Next generation sequencing (NGS) technique. Regular screening aids early diagnosis, which provides a bigger room for complete cure of breast or ovarian cancer. Reporting of findings is done only for clinically relevant mutations with >100x coverage.
