USA (March 25, 2022) – Author Mark A. Schoedl has come out with “Beneath the Crimson Maples,” his first book, where he raises some vital questions about life and love and the importance of being in tune with the self.
A person gets disillusioned with life following several twists and turns in his existence. Fear has an important part to play in his disillusionment and not getting a sense of peace, and it has no significance, whether the individual comes from a rich or poor background.
When a person faces hardships for a prolonged time, some time or other, they are sure to face a breakdown. That is portrayed through the characters in this book. They get very independent when everybody they meet in life tries to dissuade them from falling off the brink. Those tired of comparing themselves with others can resonate with this work.
The characters include a wounded 38-year old housewife, Genie Bartusek, looking for love outside marriage with a seemingly forlorn stranger named Paul; accomplished flutist Jasmine Padilla who feels alienated from her mother and friends and wishes to lead her junior varsity basketball team to a glorious future and an old man named Paul Bogdanov who has kicked the booze sometime back and meets his muse in a sandwich shop, which brings some peace to his almost nondescript life.
The novel raises some important questions, such as whether the past can be overlooked to live in the present, whether fear and love are opposites, and so on. The author has pointed out that while the vast majority prefers to go by the norms and traditions, a small minority cannot really conform to the rules, and their belief in faith cannot heal their wounds in life.
Schoedl’s own experiences of Northwestern Milwaukee while growing up have been reflected through the characters and situations of this novel. Many of the occurrences and characters in this work have been shaped by the sights and sounds of the place and his thoughts and emotions that arose as a response to them. Talking about the characters and their outlook on life, Schoedl has remarked in a recent interview that he built everything and everyone from his recollections of life as he was growing up as a young man in Northwestern Milwaukee, the bike-borne youths, the bored housewives, the languid pace of life and the constant challenges faced by the local people as well as their struggles to keep a straight face amid their obstacles.
The book is now available in a hardcover version on Amazon and other major online stores out there, and it is also available to read in a Kindle edition. When it comes to the book’s success, Schoedl hopes that it will be well-received because while the flavor is specific to an area, the feelings are universal.
