Aug 11, 2021 – Nothing is more frustrating than dealing with a deceitful person. Sadly, it is quite common for auto dealers to try and entrap confused customers. These dealers agree on a price with the customer beforehand to get them to commit. However, when the customer shows up at the dealership, they are surprised with outrageous markups and additional fees. Moreover, the dealer starts pressurizing customers into paying the additional charges.
A customer recently reported that he was surprised with a 20% dealer markup as he went to pick up a commercial vehicle. The dealer further added 4% on MSRP because it took 8 months for the vehicle to arrive due to chip shortages. Ford Dealer previously committed to a price on a custom order, but when the customer arrived at the dealership, he found that the dealer was no longer interested in the original deal. The dealer refused to honor the signed agreement and he further presented a “take it or leave it” situation. This response from the dealer was not acceptable at any level.
Moreover, Ford Motor Company refused to take any action against dealers who behave in such a manner. When this matter was brought to their attention, they only sent a feedback letter to the dealer. The company took no other action and the situation was left in hands of the Ford dealer. From a buyer’s perspective, this was a very disappointing response from the company.
There are countless examples of customers agreeing to such unreasonable demands. Many of these customers have to drive for hours just to get to the dealership. These deceitful dealers exploit their customers and pressurize them into accepting their demands. Customers end up paying thousands of dollars on spot just to get their vehicle from the dealership.
The situation can become quite complicated for customers that blindly trusted dealers to uphold their end of the deal. Even if there is proof in writing, the customers can’t do much about this situation. They have to either agree to the surprise markups or leave the dealership. It’s times like these where we need to help one another, not use the situation to take more from each other.
