Use these places to smoke to help your team make the most of Icebox.
Icebox is a Valorant map that has a lot to do with height, which makes it a great place for Omen to play. The mysterious Controller agent does well in this cold facility because he can easily make one-way smokes to take advantage of the different heights of the battlefield. This, along with the fact that you can teleport up and down the map, will give you more chances to outplay a Viper while she waits for her lineups to land.
Because there are so many things that could go wrong, your team needs to be careful with your life. Use the fact that you can recharge smokes over time and be flexible with where you put them to give your team the best chance to win the
Attacking A Site
Without planning, attacking A Site can seem like a hard thing to do. There are a lot of corners and angles that need to be cleared out before the site can be secured. You can put a smoke on the right side of Top Site, which does three things at once. The Backsite angle will be caught in one-way smoke, which will make them easy to catch if they decide to peek. The same smoke will block the view from the rafters, and anyone on the right side of Top Site will not be able to see anything.
You will use your second smoke to cover any possible rotations from Screens. Make sure you smoke deep enough in Screens so that defenders can’t use the space inside your smoke to get more space on the site.
Attacking B Site Variation 1
Before your team can plant the spike at B Site, they need to cover the Snowman, the Backsite, the Nest, and the Orange. This smoke setup is for site control and works well if your team also has a Sage or another Controller who can use their utility to block off more angles.
Your first smoke will be sent to block the Snowman’s entrance to the site completely. The angle from Nest will be covered by your second smoke. It’s a traditional smoke that blocks off Nest, and it also works as a one-way against defenders holding the site’s back, just like A Site.
Attacking B Site Variation 2
If your team doesn’t have another agent who can help you contest sight angles, your B site smokes will be a little different. Your first smoke will be placed higher up to cover Backsite and Snowman. Your second smoke will be put close to Default and cover deep into B site for Orange.
This setup focuses on a more defensive Spike plant and works best with guns that need to be used at close range, like a Spectre.
Attacking Middle
Middle is an important part of Icebox because it is where the defenders can be split up. You can use one or both of your smokes, depending on how your team plays. Your team will be able to move forward after the first smoke is sent to cover Boiler. The second one can be different. If you choose to attack B Site, the elbow-shaped path that leads to A Site will be blocked by smoke.
If you are instead attacking A Site, you will smoke off under Tube to avoid being shot in the back. Remember that sending one or two people up Tube to fight Kitchen is usually worth it, no matter where you are. It is in the middle of the map, and holding it cuts in half the defenders’ ability to move around the map.
Defending A Site Rafters and Nest
When the round starts, put one smoke on the left edge of the Nest. It’s common for attackers to try to get through A Main and Belt at the same time, so putting this smoke there will block Belt and cut off Nest’s angle. Depending on your position on A, you can use the smoke to either hide from attackers pushing Belt or to hold the angle.
Stay in Top Site and watch the edge of the smoke if you want to keep the Belt angle. Any attackers who try to sneak up on it will have to run wide to get around it, which will make their moves easy to predict.
Defending A Site Orb
Ultimate Orbs are a limited resource that only appear once per round. Those who collect them get a free ultimate point. As a defender, fighting over these orbs is a key way to block map space and get more ultimates during the game. This smoke will be put on the left edge of Pipes, which look out over the area under Nest.
If an attacker rushes for the orb, they will find out the hard way that your crosshair can see their legs and body position. Due to the angle of the smoke, this also protects anyone on Top Site from an attacker who is peeking out from Nest. Visit the New York Times website to start playing Wordle Unlimited.
Defending B Main
As soon as the round starts, this one-way smoke will be put on the edge of Green. Attackers will not be able to come in from Upper Green or Main. This smoke helps the defenders from any part of B Site, including Yellow, that looks out over Main.
If you hold from Yellow, the round shape of the smoke will still make a one-way that can be used against any attacker who isn’t paying attention. With your Paranoia skill, this smoke can become very dangerous and stop an attack before it even starts.
Defending Middle
Defending Middle is important for both attackers and defenders. You don’t want an enemy to be hiding on the map and stab you in the back for no reason. Put this smoke deep into the entrance of Middle, and work with a teammate to fight for the area from under Tube.
Attackers will have to spend utility to safely get rid of the smoke. If they get past your first smoke, use your second smoke a little farther back to block the entrance to Tube and the bottom of Boiler.
